Ojos klonk nog wel stoer, maar voor de Nederlandse markt is Riya niks. Ik moet gelijk denken aan een aquarellende premiersvrouw. Riya (interessant stukje bij Michel te lezen) is een fotodienst a la Flickr, maar dan anders. Het is de eerste dienst die werkt met beeldherkenning. Waar Flickr met tags werkt en Google Images met context denkt Riya te weten wat er echt op je foto staat.
Dat is niet helemaal waar, want je moet hem eerst een handje helpen door aan te geven wat wat is op een foto:
Maar als je haar een keer hebt verteld dat die persoon op een foto echt Kofi Annan is, dan herkent Riya Kofi voortaan op alle foto’s waar hij nog meer op staat, ook zonder aangeven. Ook kan de dienst teksten op foto’s lezen via OCR technieken. Hoe vaak dit allemaal fout gaat weet ik niet, want je kan alleen op uitnodiging gebruik maken van de dienst. Als het werkt, dan doe ik in ieder geval mee!

You can upload photos of real celebrities (well known, or even less well known) and see how well they get recognized. It’s good fun, actually. It shows the power of auto-tagging and the usefulness of face recognition in photo searching and organizing, and the kind of functionality we will be seeing in the very near future.
MyHeritage is multilingual and a version in Dutch will be available soon. This site is not just about face recognition. It is geared towards genealogy and family history, but face recognition is one of the features in it. Disclaimer: I work for this company.
@Vikram: I know your site, it looks promising! I tried putting in a photo and did not really know what to think of the results. But it’s always hard to judge your own looks. I will follow your site closely.
